Completed in February 2015, it is located on the ground floor of a new residential complex. with direct access to a landscaped outdoor play area. The area was originally intended for a series of separate shops and suites so the design had to accommodate some quite awkward junctions. The unorthogonal layout has been turned into an advantage with the playspace stepping in and around the columns and corners, creating interesting variations within a fluid open plan layout. Design focus is on maximising a feeling of space, natural light, connection with the outdoor play & on practical, functional layouts.
The Lewisham Centre has a generous layout with 5 separate, age specific playrooms accessed from the shared undercover playarea. Entry is directly into a shared multipurpose area with an open servery kitchen. Each playroom features a climable play area at the rear of the room and large glazed doors to the outdoor play area at the front, the larger playrooms also have a small stage space for drama. Outdoors the landscaping has been designed to be used for play, with shallow timber ramps, digging areas, sandpits and stepping stones. The fitout features timber floors, rustic timber walls on the exterior and a neutral colour scheme.
