Award winning house for residential extension.
COURT ROAD HOUSE FIRST FLOOR ADDITION.
Significant alterations and additions to an 1890's terrace house in Paddington, Sydney were undertaken to accommodate the modern functions of a garage, family room and open plan kitchen, dining and external deck.
The existing heritage fabric was left in tact with very little alteration, apart from the addition of a skylight over the existing stair, remedial work to the front facade and interiors. Whilst at the rear of the property a garage was accommodated under a new deck, which served the dual role of extending the interior kitchen dining space, whilst also obscuring the view of the car and garage.
The modern extension at the rear is reached through a traditional passageway, created with a modern bathroom tucked under the existing stair. The transition is sensitive to the existing heritage fabric and provides an element of surprise as one enters the modern rear area.
